Gelora Bung Karno: the home of Indonesian sports

Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, one of the precious assets that Indonesia have.

Indonesia have an international scaled sport stadium named Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, which located in Senayan, Central Jakarta. It has a maximum capacity of 77,193 seats, and ranked in the 19^th of the biggest sport stadiums in the world.

It was built when Indonesia were selected as the host of the fourth Asian Games in 1962, during the era of Indonesian’s first ever president, Ir. Soekarno. He chose to build this majestic stadium in Senayan due to its strategic location to hold the sport event. The construction was began in 8th February 1960 and finished in 21st July 1962.

Although this stadium is mainly used for football matches, GBK has now a plenty of facilities regarding sport events, including 36 venues around the area. Some of the venues are Softball field, Aquatic stadium, Tennis stadium, Basketball Hall, Baseball field, Istora, etc. Not only for sports, but GBK is also used for music concerts. Numerous famous singers from all over the world have performed in this place, such as; One Direction, Guns N Roses, Avenged Sevenfold, and Ed Sheeran.
