Man. United 0-0 Liverpool: A goalless draw filled with injuries (Revised)

Liverpool clinched the top spot in the Premier League after gaining a hard-earned point at Old Trafford.

Manchester United faced their eternal rival Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday (3/24/2019), with the home side were hoping for getting all the three points to prevent Klopp's side clinch the top of the Premier League table. A win for Red Devils could make their position in the top-four more secure, considering they lead only one point ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea.

Solskjaer's squad for this big clash didn't involve Martial through his injury in the first leg of Champions League round of 16 against PSG a few weeks ago. Lingard, who was also injured in that match, has recovered and joined the team from the bench, but he wasn't 100% fit to start the game according to his boss. Matic was also absent because he was injured in the training session a few days before the match.

United were a bit sloppy in the opening five minutes, with the skipper Ashley Young's weak pass was handled by De Gea after they were being pressed by Firmino. Liverpool had a free-kick inside the box afterwards, but Milner's effort was blocked by Juan Mata.

The home fans looked worried as their striker Marcus Rashford had a knock and looked limp in the 15th minute. Lingard was instructed to warm up earlier as he might replace him soon.

Another huge blow for the home side coming in 27th minute as Herrera and Mata fell down on the pitch and looked they had hamstring problems, so they couldn't continue to play for the rest of the match. Lingard finally came on to replace Mata instead of Rashford. Andreas Pereira, who only had few opportunities to play this season, replaced Herrera in the midfield.

The first real attempt for the Red Devils came in three minutes before the break after Lukaku's through pass to Lingard who tried to dribble past Allison, but the Brazilian goalkeeper stopped him as he stretched his left hand on the ball.

Lingard was stumbled on the challenge and seemed his injury relapsed as he was laying down on the pitch. He was taken off after having played only for 18 minutes, and Sanchez entered the pitch to replace him. This is the first time in Manchester United history to have used all three substitutions before half-time.

United looked comfortable in defence as the visitors couldn't make any significant attack during the game. Shaw's man-marking on Salah has been excellent. The duo centre-backs Smalling and Lindelof were showing an impressive display on the defence line. Not forget to mention, McTominay's role in defensive midfield was performing a great disciplinary as Matic replacement.

In the 75th minute, Shaw delivered a perfect-inched cross to Smalling, before he flicked it to the middle and the ball was deflected by Joel Matip into his own net. The Old Trafford was celebrating the goal before realising the offside call by the linesman and the goal was disallowed.

The tempo went a bit higher in the final minutes, but the referee blew the final whistle as the match ended in a goalless draw.

Despite all injuries that they had during the game, United managed to get a point against a very well side. On the other hand, Klopp seemed unhappy with the result as his players should nick all the three points, considering the advantage from the injury problems that the opposition had.

This result saw David de Gea keep his 100th Premier League clean sheet in 267 appearances. This record made him as the second United goalkeeper to reach the milestone after Peter Schmeichel.

Why we should appreciate rejuvenated Pogba's form

Paul Pogba is having an important role under interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. United midfield star Paul Pogba has produced a very impressive record in recent games this season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The World Cup winner has scored eight goals and provided six assists in 10 league games since Solskjaer took over United helm in December after Jose Mourinho was sacked. Pogba was praised by several football experts during his best career performance so far. His goal contributions from the midfield position have crucial impacts for his team. His boss sometimes positioned him in left areas on some occasions, in order to provide ball supplies from the flank for assisting other United forwards such as Rashford, Martial, Lukaku, or even Lingard. The French international's performance against Chelsea last week was one of the examples that he successfully regained his form after he was sent off on the last match against PSG. He was involved in both goals in the game,
